OMG!!! I can’t tell you how excited I am about being a part of the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge!!
As a boy I watched the great Grand Prix racers Prost, Senna, Schumacher and our local V8 heroes Brock, Bowe, Johnson and Skaife just to name a few. Building cars with my uncle in our back yard and garages until all hours of the morning and watching racing with my dad, you can say petrol flowed through my veins from a young age.
I love cars and bikes, both new and old, and always fancied myself as a bit of a driver. That all changed the first day I took my HDT on the track. I realised how much of a poor driver I was. And it automatically gave me a higher level of respect and admiration for the drivers that I had spent my whole life watching on TV and at the track.
I remember in years gone by watching the Australian Grand Prix and sitting back, admiring the driving skill of the celebrity challenge drivers or lack thereof…. I always thought to myself, what an amazing opportunity it would be to be able to be involved in that race. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be given the chance to drive in the race.
When I got the call, I didn’t know what to say. I almost fell off my chair!
I am so looking forward to all of it: meeting the other drivers, learning from the best in the business, and finally, the thrill of the big race next March.
I’m not really expecting much. Definitely not to win. I’m just a cook from the western suburbs of Melbourne. The rest of the field are Olympic athletes, AFL legends, and sporting royalty who have represented our nation on the world stage. What chance do I have?!
Either way it is going to be one of the events I will always look at in my life as a highlight and I’m sure I will treasure the whole experience.
And if by some fluke chance I do walk away with the win, I will get a tattoo to commemorate the achievement!
